Last summer I developed a system I called "Mommy points" to ensure that the kids didn't laze around for 3 months. This year I have come up with 'Mom's Summer Punch Card.' Basically the kids can get up to 4 punches a day for doing chores, reading/piano, being a peacemaker and performing some kind of service for someone else. We go over the cards at bedtime right after scripture study and family prayer. The bedtime routine is usually the hardest part of the day for me because by that time I am spent and the kids are usually either super riled up or so tired that they are in meltdown mode. Tonight they were so good because they were all trying to keep their peacemaker punch. I cannot remember a time when scripture study and prayer has been so peaceful. I think I may be on to something. When they complete a card then they get to go on a special "mommy date." The kids are really excited about it and we're off to a good start... hopefully it lasts.
