This past week I have spent many hours out in the garage painting my bedroom furniture. It was my Grandma and Grandpa Skeeles' old furniture and we have been so grateful to have it all these years. They are great pieces (solid maple I believe), but they just needed a little updating. After studying several different blogs, I finally took the plunge. I sanded, primed, painted (2 coats) and then glazed every piece to give it that vintagey look. As for the hardware, I was planning to replace it all (22 pieces), but I realized that the holes were not standard and so I would have had to fill the existing holes and then re-drill, which I was not excited about and it was going to cost A LOT to buy that much hardware. So, instead I bought a can of spray paint for $6 and sprayed them in 'oil rubbed bronze' paint.
All in all, it took a little longer than I had hoped, but I'm pretty pleased with the results. Millie was often in the garage with me doing her own painting projects. I wish I would have taken a picture of all her creations.
Here are some before and after pics:
I think that mirror is hung a little high, but I wanted to be able to see my head. Maybe I should turn it vertical? I need to figure out what to do above the chest of drawers too.

Wow, Carey! That's quite a project! Great job! And it looks very classy. Also, I like your mirror exactly where it is.
ReplyDeleteYay!!! It looks amazing! You did such a great job. Isn't it fun to have brand new furniture? Love it!
