The reading maniac

Caroline LOVES to read. I always dreamed of a child like her that would prefer reading over watching a show, but I never really thought it would happen since I was not like that myself.  I went to the library last Friday and picked out about ten books that I thought she might like and hoped would tide her over for a couple of weeks. I think she has now finished them all (it's been 5 days). This photo is a picture of the books she read on Friday and Saturday. I never read like that when I was a kid, so she must get it from Scott. There are some drawbacks to this obsession, like not paying attention to anything else when she has a book (homework, scripture study, dinner, friends, piano) and she stays up super late at night. I am often telling her to put the book down and sometimes I have to confiscate it to get her to do anything. Ella loves to read when it's the right book (she can be pretty picky) and Calvin is just now really taking off with his reading. Caroline and I are still part of a Mother/Daughter book club. We are supposed to read the book together and we usually start it together, but then after the first chapter I'm done for the night and she then sneaks and reads the rest of the book before I can sit with her again.

Here she is reading when she supposed to be doing her homework and practicing her times tables...I took this pic right before I took the book away.

  1. Wow! Sounds just like my Katya. I love that she is into books, but she does want to do it late at night all the time. I used to read all the time growing up, I still love to read, but cannot seem to find as much time...for some reason:)
